Disaster Management
The Babinda Taskforce Disaster Management Service is focused on Resilience, Response and Recovery:
Resilience — Actions taken before an event to reduce risk: developing plans, participating in training, and delivering community education.
Response – During disaster events, Babinda Taskforce plays a crucial role in strengthening communication and coordination between Babinda, neighbouring communities, and the Cairns Local Disaster Coordination Centre (LDCC). The Taskforce’s responsibilities include communicating local priorities to the LDCC; identifying community resources that can be drawn on during a disaster; identifying vulnerable individuals who may need special assistance; managing the place of refuge and liaising with local personnel and key community organisations.
Recovery — Coordinated efforts to rebuild including assisting residents with claims, emergency relief, Centrelink applications, information and other post-disaster support services.
