Babinda Swimming Pool

In late 2025, the Cairns Regional Council’s Draft Aquatic Facilities Strategy proposed to decommission the Babinda Swimming Pool.

The community consultation period (now closed) produced the following:

• 1,095 responses via Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ survey.

• 21 responses from local schools.

• 19 submissions from community members and groups via email/mail.

Council officers have started a detailed thematic review of all the feedback.

The proposed final strategy – including any changes from community feedback – is expected to be presented to Council late in 2026.

The Babinda Taskforce was asked to prepare a submission responding to this recommendation on behalf of the Babinda and Surrounds community.

The final Babinda District Community Association submission to Cairns Regional Council can be read here.

We thank everyone that contributed to this process, whether they were involved in the BDCA submission or provided feedback directly to Council themselves.

Babinda District Community Association will continue to advocate for access to essential community infrastructure for all Cairns Local Government Area residents.
